This guide outlines the submission process, manuscript preparation, and ethical standards required for publication in MJASOC.

1. Scope of the Journal

MJASOC publishes peer-reviewed articles focused on innovation, safety, outcomes, and best practices in surgical and operative care across all subspecialties. We welcome submissions in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Advanced Surgical Techniques and Innovations

  • Operative Case Series and Technical Notes

  • Perioperative Management and Critical Care

  • Surgical Simulation and Education

  • Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery

  • Emergency, Trauma, and Oncologic Surgery

  • Surgical Instrumentation and Technology

  • Surgical Ethics and Health Policy

  • Postoperative Recovery and Patient Outcomes

  • Global and Low-Resource Surgery

2. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

MJASOC accepts the following article types:

  • Original Research Articles – Comprehensive studies presenting new surgical knowledge or techniques

  • Review Articles – In-depth and structured overviews of current surgical evidence

  • Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses – High-quality evidence syntheses

  • Surgical Case Reports & Case Series – Unique cases demonstrating clinical or procedural significance

  • Technical Notes – Descriptions of novel surgical procedures or tools

  • Brief Communications – Short, impactful preliminary findings

  • Editorials & Perspectives – Expert commentary (typically by invitation)

  • Letters to the Editor – Academic dialogue and constructive critique

3. Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

A. Formatting Requirements

  • Submit in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx)

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12

  • Line spacing: 1.5, with page numbers throughout

  • Title page must include:

    • Full manuscript title

    • Names and affiliations of all authors

    • Corresponding author’s name, email, and full contact details

B. Abstract and Keywords

  • Required for all research and review articles (max. 250 words)

  • Use a structured format for original research: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion

  • Include 4–6 keywords beneath the abstract

C. Main Text Structure

For Original Research Articles, the manuscript should include:

  • Introduction

  • Methods

  • Results

  • Discussion

  • Conclusion

Other article types may follow formats appropriate to their category (e.g., case reports: Introduction, Case Presentation, Discussion).

4. References and Citation Style

  • Use Vancouver citation style

  • References must be numbered in the order they appear in the text

  • Cite only peer-reviewed, published, or publicly accessible sources

  • Ensure accuracy and consistency in formatting

5. Figures and Tables

  • Include figures and tables at the end of the manuscript or as separate high-quality files

  • Number figures and tables consecutively (e.g., Figure 1, Table 1)

  • Include concise titles and legends for each

  • Image resolution must be at least 300 dpi

  • Consent is required for any patient-identifiable content

6. Ethical Considerations

A. Human and Animal Studies

  • Submit documentation of ethical review board approval

  • Confirm that informed consent was obtained for all human subjects

  • Follow local, national, and international ethical guidelines

B. Plagiarism and Originality

  • Submissions must be original and not under consideration elsewhere

  • All manuscripts will be screened for plagiarism

  • Authors are accountable for the originality and scientific integrity of their work

C. Authorship

  • MJASOC follows ICMJE authorship criteria

  • All listed authors must have made significant contributions

  • Post-submission changes in authorship require written agreement from all authors

7. Peer Review Process

  • MJASOC uses a double-blind peer review system

  • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent experts

  • The average editorial decision time is 4 to 6 weeks

  • Revisions may be requested based on reviewer and editorial feedback

8. Open Access Policy

MJASOC is a fully open access journal. All content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), allowing unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction with proper citation.
