Dr. Alexandra N. Mbanefo, MD, PhD
Dr. Alexandra N. Mbanefo is an accomplished physician-scientist and academic leader with over 20 years of experience in medical research, clinical practice, and scholarly publishing. She holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a PhD in Global Health and Epidemiology from internationally recognized institutions.
Dr. Mbanefo’s expertise spans general internal medicine, global public health, clinical research methodology, and health systems development. Her research has focused on advancing health equity through translational science, evidence-based interventions, and medical education innovation. She has authored and co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and served as a reviewer and section editor for several high-impact international journals.
As Editor-in-Chief of MIJMS, Dr. Mbanefo is committed to fostering a rigorous, inclusive, and ethically grounded publishing environment. She oversees the journal’s editorial strategy, peer review standards, and thematic direction to ensure the publication of scientifically sound, clinically relevant, and globally accessible research. Her leadership promotes collaboration across disciplines and supports emerging voices in medical science.
Dr. Mbanefo is a fellow of multiple professional societies, including the International Society of Internal Medicine, and regularly speaks at international conferences on clinical research integrity, academic publishing ethics, and the future of open access in global health.
