Mogito Open Access Journal of Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences (MJBBS)

At the Mogito Open Access Journal of Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences (MJBBS), we are firmly committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct throughout the publication process. Our ethical guidelines are aligned with internationally recognized frameworks, including those of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

The following principles outline our expectations for authors, editors, reviewers, and all participants in the publication ecosystem.

1. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting to MJBBS are expected to:

  • Ensure originality: All submitted work must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Proper citations must be given when referencing previously published work.

  • Avoid plagiarism: Plagiarism in any form (text, data, images, or ideas) is strictly prohibited. All manuscripts undergo plagiarism screening.

  • Disclose conflicts of interest: Authors must declare any financial or non-financial interests that may influence the interpretation of results.

  • Acknowledge contributors: Individuals who contributed substantially to the research must be appropriately credited through authorship or acknowledgments.

  • Ensure accurate reporting: Research methods, data analysis, and results must be presented accurately and without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation.

  • Secure ethics approval: Research involving human participants or animals must include evidence of approval by appropriate ethics review boards and adherence to ethical standards.

  • Address authorship responsibly: All listed authors must have made a significant contribution and agree to the final version of the manuscript and its submission.

2. Responsibilities of Editors

MJBBS Editors are entrusted to:

  • Uphold objectivity: Decisions are based solely on the scientific merit of the work, free from discrimination based on nationality, gender, institutional affiliation, or personal beliefs.

  • Ensure confidentiality: Editors maintain strict confidentiality regarding all manuscript details and peer review content.

  • Manage conflicts of interest: Editors recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have a competing interest.

  • Respond to misconduct: Editors will act promptly in cases of suspected ethical breaches, following COPE flowcharts and procedures for investigation and resolution.

3. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Peer reviewers must:

  • Conduct fair and timely reviews: Provide constructive, unbiased, and respectful feedback within the agreed timeline.

  • Maintain confidentiality: Treat all manuscript information as privileged and not to be used for personal benefit.

  • Disclose conflicts: Refrain from reviewing if any potential conflict of interest exists with the authors or content.

  • Report ethical concerns: Inform the editor of any suspected misconduct, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or duplicate publication.

4. Handling of Misconduct

MJBBS takes allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously. These may include:

  • Plagiarism

  • Duplicate or redundant publication

  • Authorship disputes

  • Data fabrication or falsification

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest

All such cases will be investigated thoroughly. If misconduct is confirmed, MJBBS may take corrective actions such as retraction, corrections, notices of concern, or banning authors from future submissions.

5. Retraction and Correction Policy

MJBBS follows COPE guidelines for retractions and corrections. Retractions may be issued in cases of proven misconduct or major errors that invalidate the findings. Minor errors will be corrected via formal errata or corrigenda.

6. Data Sharing & Transparency

Authors are encouraged to provide access to underlying data and protocols where feasible. This supports reproducibility and enhances the trustworthiness of published findings.

7. Ethical Oversight and Appeals

Authors and reviewers have the right to appeal editorial decisions. All appeals and complaints are handled impartially and in accordance with COPE standards.
