Mogito Open Access Journals of Marine Biology & Aquatic Research (MJMBAR) Publication Ethics

Mogito Open Access Journal of Marine Biology & Aquatic Research (MJMBAR) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. As part of the Mogito Open Access platform, MJMBAR ensures that all aspects of the publication process— from submission and peer review to editorial decision and post-publication—are guided by ethical practices that foster transparency, accountability, and scientific excellence.

Our ethical guidelines are informed by internationally recognized standards, including those set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

1. Responsibilities of Authors

  • Originality & Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are entirely original. Any use of others’ work must be properly cited. Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism, is unacceptable and will result in immediate rejection or retraction.

  • Data Integrity: Authors must present data honestly, without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation. All data should be available for peer review and replication where applicable.

  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment must be given to all funding bodies, collaborators, and prior publications relevant to the work.

  • Authorship Criteria: Authorship should be limited to those who made a significant contribution to the research. All listed authors must have reviewed and approved the final manuscript and consented to its submission.

  • Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that may influence the interpretation of their results.

2. Responsibilities of Editors

  • Fair Decision-Making: Editors must evaluate manuscripts solely based on academic merit, without regard to the authors' race, gender, institutional affiliation, or country of origin.

  • Confidentiality: All manuscripts are treated as confidential documents and will not be shared outside the editorial team and designated reviewers.

  • Conflict of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.

  • Ethical Oversight: Editors are responsible for investigating and resolving any suspected ethical breaches in manuscripts or published articles.

3. Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively, with clear and constructive feedback. Personal criticism is inappropriate.

  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential. Reviewers should not discuss or share manuscript content outside the review process.

  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and alert editors to any suspected duplication, plagiarism, or ethical issues.

  • Timeliness: Reviewers are expected to complete their reviews within the specified timeframe. If delays are unavoidable, timely communication with the editorial office is required.

4. Misconduct & Corrections

MJMBAR has a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, including plagiarism, data falsification, duplicate publication, and unethical research practices. When misconduct is suspected:

  • The editorial team will initiate an investigation following COPE guidelines.

  • If proven, appropriate action will be taken, including manuscript rejection, retraction of published articles, or notification of the author’s institution.

  • Retractions, corrections, or expressions of concern will be published to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

5. Ethical Research Standards

Authors must confirm that all research involving animals, humans, or the environment complies with relevant ethical guidelines and has received appropriate institutional approval. Specific statements regarding:

  • Animal Welfare (e.g., field collection, laboratory procedures)

  • Environmental Impact (e.g., marine ecosystems, protected species)

  • Human Participation (if applicable, including informed consent)

...must be clearly included in the manuscript under an “Ethics Statement.”
